Privacy Policy

Short version: MM-DL does not collect, store, sell, or share your personal data. All processing happens locally on your machine via the yt-dlp backend. We have no user accounts, no tracking, and no analytics.

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy describes how MM-DL ("the Service"), developed by Bismaya, handles information when you use the Service. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

MM-DL is a locally-run tool — the backend server runs on your own machine, and all video downloading is performed directly from your device to the source platform. We do not operate any centralized servers that process your requests.

2. Information We Do NOT Collect

MM-DL does not collect, store, transmit, or process any of the following:

  • Personal identification information (name, email address, phone number, etc.)
  • IP addresses or device identifiers
  • URLs you paste into the downloader
  • Videos, audio files, or any media you download
  • Browser history, cookies, or session data
  • Usage analytics, telemetry, or crash reports
  • Payment information (the Service is free)

3. How MM-DL Works

When you use MM-DL:

  1. You paste a video URL into the interface running in your browser.
  2. Your browser sends that URL to the MM-DL backend server running locally on your machine (typically at localhost:3001).
  3. The local server uses yt-dlp to contact the source platform (e.g., YouTube) directly from your machine.
  4. The video is downloaded to your machine's temporary directory and served to your browser.

At no point does any data pass through our servers, because we do not operate any servers. Everything is local.

4. Third-Party Platforms

When you download a video, your machine communicates directly with the source platform (YouTube, Instagram, etc.). Those platforms may log your IP address and request details in accordance with their own privacy policies. MM-DL has no control over and assumes no responsibility for the privacy practices of third-party platforms.

We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any platform from which you download content.

5. Cookies and Local Storage

MM-DL does not use cookies, local storage, session storage, or any other browser-based tracking mechanisms. The frontend is a static HTML/CSS/JavaScript application with no persistent state.

6. Children's Privacy

MM-DL is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the Service, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to remove such information.

7. Open Source Transparency

MM-DL is an open-source project. You can inspect the full source code to verify exactly what data is processed and how. The backend server code is available for review in the project repository. We believe transparency is the best privacy guarantee.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of MM-DL after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
